     BTAmp 0.25
========================================================================

1.0 Program description
------------------------------------------------------------------------
BTAmp is a media remote controller operating via Bluetooth or TCP/IP
(it is IRDA, serial, USB or again Bluetooth). It is compatible with
freely available Bemused server (Windows executable is included in the
package) that is a piece of software able to control some media players
on your desktop PC. Using BTAmp you can easily control some of the
Windows media players such as Winamp 2, Winamp 3, Windows Media Player
and PowerPoint. Some efforts has been made to port Bemused to Mac and
Linux and control some media players on those systems too.

BTAmp was tested and is currently supported with Winamp 2 and Winamp 3
only, but this should change in the nearest future. TCP/IP is still
considered experimental, but seems to work in most cases.

		the Internet)

  2.4 Desktop recommendations
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  * Windows system that is able to run Bemused server
(Bemused server is included in the package)
  * Winamp 2 (strongly recommended) or Winamp 3
    (download from http://www.winamp.com/)
  * standard Bluetooth software (should be provided with your Bluetooth
controller) or any configuration that lets you set up a TCP/IP
		connection with your PDA

3.0 Instalation and configuration
------------------------------------------------------------------------
BTAmp requires instalation of PalmOS software (BTAmp executable),
desktop software (Bemused server) and some media player (Winamp is
recommended). Then you need to configure your connection (it is to
configure Bluetooth software or IP based connection between your
desktop and PDA), and configure the Bemused server. All those topics
are in detail covered below.

  3.1 BTAmp executable instalation
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------
Using a standard application for additional software instalation
copy to your handheld the file:

  BTAmp.prc

  3.2 Bemused instalation
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------
The latest version of Bemused (and it's source code) is freely
  available from http://www.compsoc.man.ac.uk/~ashley/bemused/

The latest vesion (as for release of this package) is incuded in this
package. To install a server simply copy the executable file:

  BemusedServer.exe

  to any writable directory.

  3.3 Winamp installation
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you don't have it yet, download Winamp 2 (strongly recommended) or
  Winamp 3 from http://classic.winamp.com/ or http://www.winamp.com/
	then execute the downloaded file.

  3.4 Connection settings
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------
You can communicate with your desktop using Bluetooth COM, or through
TCP/IP communication. First method does not require any settings on
PDA side, but you may find the second one simplier if you have already
configured your connection with your desktop to use webbrowser or
mail on your PDA (in on-line mode) with desktop as your gateway.

    3.4.1 Bluetooth COM settings
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
To check which COM port Bemused server should use (you will need it
later), go to advanced configuration of your Bluetooth software and
check your local services. There should exist an active "Bluetooth
Serial Port" service (if not, you should add it) and a COM port
    number should be given.

Make sure, that HotSync Manager does not use your Bluetooth COM port
by deselecting "Local Serial" in right-click menu.

    3.4.2 TCP/IP communication settings
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
Configure your desktop and PDA in a way that lets you set up a
TCP/IP connection with your desktop from your PDA. Make sure it works
by connecting through Prefs (look for Network preferences) - if
tapping "Connect" initiates the connection, you are on your best way.

If you know how to use ping, make sure that communication with your
PC really works. Also if you use your desktop as a gatway to
the Internet, and you are able to surf the WWW after connection,
    it is very promising.

If you are using any firewalls on your desktop, or a firewall exists
on a route between your desktop and PDA, make sure you are able to
connect to TCP port of your PC numbered 7654.

  3.5 Bemused configuration
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------
Configuration of the server depends on Winamp you decide to use.
Choose from the following configurations one that suits your needs.
If you are determined to use Winamp 3, you can try two different
configurations, but neither is perfect (that is why Winamp 2 is
  strongly recommended).

3.5.1 Bemused with Winamp 2 configuration
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
    This is a recommended configuration.

    On the following wizard screens:

    * click "Next" to begin
    * choose "Winamp 2" as your player
    * enter the path to player's executable
      (probably C:\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.exe)
    * at the moment ignore the locations of files clicking "Next"
    * if you want to use the Bluetooth COM connection method and not
the TCP/IP, select the Bluetooth COM port (see 3.4 - Bluetooth
      settings), otherwise ignore this screen
    * finish the wizard clicking "Next"

3.5.2 Bemused with Winamp 3 configuration with component
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
If you want to use a playlist with Winamp 3 you need to use this
kind of configuration. First of all download and install a
"Winamp 2x Plugin Manager" component for Winamp 3 from:

    http://www.winamp.com/components3/detail.jhtml?componentId=118230

Then on the following wizard screens:

    * click "Next" to begin
    * choose "Winamp 2" (yes, Winamp 2, not Winamp 3!) as your player
    * enter the path to player's executable
      (probably C:\Program Files\Winamp3\studio.exe)
    * at the moment ignore the locations of files clicking "Next"
    * if you want to use the Bluetooth COM connection method and not
the TCP/IP, select the Bluetooth COM port (see 3.4 - Bluetooth
      settings), otherwise ignore this screen
    * finish the wizard clicking "Next"

3.5.3 Bemused with Winamp 3 configuration without component
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
If you do not need the playlist and volume control, you don't have
to download and use the component.

    On the following wizard screens:

    * click "Next" to begin
    * choose "Winamp 3" as your player
    * enter the path to player's executable
      (probably C:\Program Files\Winamp3\studio.exe)
    * at the moment ignore the locations of files clicking "Next"
    * if you want to use the Bluetooth COM connection method and not
the TCP/IP, select the Bluetooth COM port (see 3.4 - Bluetooth
      settings), otherwise ignore this screen
    * finish the wizard clicking "Next"

  3.6 Bemused first run
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have decided to use TCP/IP and not Bluetooth COM, run Bemused
and mark the option to listen on the Internet socket. Please note that
this setting lets anyone in your network (or anyone in general if you
are connected to the Internet without a firewall) to control your
media players and as Bemused server was not tested for security, it
  may be even more dangerous!

  3.7 Testing the installation
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------
To test the installation first run Bemused and Winamp. Make sure
Winamp's playlist is not empty. With those two programs running
on your desktop run BTAmp on your PDA and tap "Connect". Wait few
seconds to see if connection between BTAmp and Bemused is stable
(if BTAmp connects but cannot communicate with Bemused it will
timeout and disconnect). Finally tap "Play" and hear the music
  playing :-)

4.0 Usage
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Bemused server on your desktop, execute BTAmp on your handheld,
connect and enjoy wireless control of your music.

If you want to learn BTAmp, go to the pulldown menu and choose
Help/Usage. Additionally an icon exists in the upper-right corner of
each window to take you to the window-specific help screen.

5.0 Uninstallation
------------------------------------------------------------------------
To fully remove BTAmp executable from your system use the typical PalmOS
procedure on your handheld. Choose App/Delete in launcher, select BTAmp,
tap "Delete" and confirm your decision.

To remove Bemused, delete the executable (BemusedServer.exe) and the
created ini file with the similar name (BemusedServer.ini).
